The 5800th S.League Goal & Woodlands Fiasco

Wow, 5-Sep-2007 is indeed a day to be remembered, not for SAFFC's win in SLVC, but for the infamous Woodlands Fiasco which has now created records & threw several things into chaos:

1.It was the very first match in S.League to be abandoned due to Boycott.

2.Woodlands could well be the first side to be docked league points during a season.
(As far as I can recall, Sinchi were deducted 3 points after the 2005 season has ended; while Afrique had its 2-1 win over SAFFC in 2006 turned into a 0-2 loss, but no further deductions.)

3.Should a win (& 3 points) be awarded to Tampines (most probably the case), Tampines will overtake Geylang into 3rd-place in the all-time S.League standings.

4.Should the 2 goals scored by Tampines stand (this may not be the case though), Noh Alam Shah's 59th minute goal would be the 5800th S.League goal!
(For simplicity sake, the 2 goals awarded to SAFFC against Afrique in 2006 shall be counted as if they're valid strikes)

5.Should Tampines be awarded a 3-0 win (international standard) instead of 2-0 (seemed to be the S.League standard based on the Afrique ruling), Noh Alam Shah's goal will still count as the 5800th S.League goal in this blog, but the S.League would have seen 5801 goals all-time by 5-Sep-2007 (again for the sake of simplicity in future calculations).

How much point deductions do you think Woodlands will be slapped? And what kind of scoreline will Tampines be awarded?

  1. Seems to me the Chairman is in the wrong, the coach and players have followed orders, if they didn’t, I’d assume they would be looking for a new club today?

The Chairman should be heavily fined and banned in my opinion, and for a long time. People like this, with power, abuse their power and ruin the game for everyone else.

With the result in question, must be awarded 3-0, but at this stage of the season it gets silly and upsets the hard work of all innocent parties..

  2. Hi there,

For peaple far away from Singapore, can you please explain what happened?

Why did Woodlands walk out? (Or why did their chairman force them to, if I understand the other comment well).

    Thx

  3. According to news report (http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/298149/1/.html), the main reasons for Woodlands walked out was due to their frustrations with several refereeing decisions that night...
