SAFFC captain Mohd Noor Ali was in good spirits yesterday when we met at Bishan Stadium.
The champions face Home United tonight in the biggest match of the NTUC Income-Yeo's S-League 2007 season, but 24 hours before what the title decider, Noor Ali was a picture of calm.
"We know it won't be easy," said Noor Ali. "As usual, we will give it everything. We know if we beat Home we will retain the title. Even though we are playing away, we'll go all out to win so we can sew things up before we meet Gombak in our last game."
With their final match of the season at home to Gombak United, one would think the Warriors would be happy to come away from Bishan with a point.
But the Bulls have yet to be beaten by SAFFC this season and Noor Ali cautioned: "We lost once to them at Jalan Besar and drew at Jurong West, so they are tough.
"Anyway, if we win at Bishan then we can display the trophy in front of our supporters next Wednesday when we play Gombak."
Noor Ali does not feel the absence of top scorer Aleksandar Duric — who is away with Singapore for the World Cup qualifier with Tajikistan — will seriously blunt his team's attack.
"Masrezwan (Masturi) is getting into form again and we know if we play as a team we have very capable players to win this match," said the skipper.
"I don't care who scores for us. We all have to do our job. If we play our best the goals will come.
"It is going to be a great game and hopefully a very good crowd will turn up to see it," the 32-year-old added.
Home United skipper S Subramani has done it all before, of course.
The Protectors, who end their 2007 campaign at Geylang United next Tuesday, won the title in 1999 and again in 2003.
Subramani is under no illusions about how tough SAFFC will be.
"We are really focusing on this match and it is our game of the season," he said. "Everyone at training has been very positive.
"We need to win both our remaining matches, but we are taking it one game at a time and we have our minds on this game alone right now.
"We want to win for the fans, as they have been tremendous for us all season."
Besides Duric, SAFFC will be without John Wilkinson, Daniel Bennett and Faizal Hamid.
Home United will miss national stars Lionel Lewis, Indra Shahdan Daud, Shahril Ishak and Shi Jiayi, while Qiu Li is suspended
"With the national players away we will be missing some really top talent who play a big role in our team's success, but we'll rally together," Subramani insisted.
"We are confident we will be able to overcome their absence."
In last night's S-League match, Woodlands Wellington beat Super Reds 1-0 at Woodlands Stadium, thanks to defender Azlan Alipah's first-half goal.
