Projected S.League 2007 Finish: 28-Sep: Gap Widened
The already-huge gap between the top-3 & the rest has widen again, as the lower-placed teams kept cancelling out each other in recent games (esp. Sengkang 2-2 Y Lions & Woodlands 1-1 Gombak).
As at 28-Sep:
# Team-------- P- W- D L GF - GA Pts GD
1 Singapore AF 26 20 2 4 75 - 31 62 (+44)
2 Home-------- 26 19 5 2 57 - 26 62 (+31)
3 Tampines---- 25 19 3 3 60 - 24 60 (+36)
4 Gombak------ 26 9 08 9 41 - 33 35 (+8)
5 Young Lions- 26 9 7 10 35 - 47 34 (-12)
6 Geylang----- 25 7 7 11 31 - 32 28 (-1)
7 Woodlands--- 26 8 10 8 38 - 43 28 (-5)
8 Albirex----- 26 7 6 13 36 - 39 27 (-3)
9 Balestier--- 25 6 7 12 32 - 41 25 (-9)
10 Liaoning--- 25 7 3 15 28 - 46 24 (-18)
11 Sengkang--- 26 4 7 15 28 - 53 19 (-25)
12 Super Reds- 26 3 7 16 19 - 65 16 (-46)
Projected Finish by the end of 2007 season:
# Team-------- P- W- D L- GF - GA Pts GD
1 Tampines---- 33 25 4 4 79 - 32 79 47
2 Singapore AF 33 25 3 5 95 - 39 78 56
3 Home-------- 33 24 6 3 72 - 33 78 39
4 Gombak---- 33 11 10 12 52 - 42 43 10
5 Young Lions 33 11 9 13 44 - 60 42 -16
6 Woodlands- 33 10 13 10 48 - 55 37 -7
7 Geylang----- 33 9 9 15 41 - 42 36 -1
8 Albirex----- 33 9 8 16 46 - 50 35 -4
9 Balestier--- 33 8 9 16 42 - 54 33 -12
10 Liaoning--- 33 9 4 20 37 - 61 31 -24
11 Sengkang--- 33 5 9 19 36 - 67 24 -31
12 Super Reds- 33 4 9 20 24 - 83 21 -59
As compared to the last post, the gap has now widen to a new season-high 35 points (up from the previous 33) & none of the teams from 4th to 12th has more wins than losses (previously we still had, ironically, Woodlands on 11-12-10), while Gombak will be the only team outside the top-3 to end with a positive G/D!
It's also worth noting that the fight at the bottom is getting even hotter with Sengkang & Super Reds expected to finish within 3 points of each other (down from the previos 5)...

Sengkang 2-2 Young Lions: 200 Points Reached!
For the entire September, the Young Lions have been trying hard to reach 200 league points all time (they already had 198 after beating Balestier 2-1 on 8-Aug), but were denied the chance as they only managed 1 point in the next 4 games (a winless run which included a draw with basement club Super Reds & 2 heavy defeats against title hopefuls SAFFC & Tampines).
It finally happened on 27-Sep though, as they drew 2-2 away with Sengkang to become the 10th team reaching the milestone. As at 27-Sep their all-time record is:
#- S GP- W PK D- L- F-- A-- GD Pts PPG-- #PPG
10 5 143 56 1 30 56 253 256 -3 200 1.397 8
Should they earn another 16 points from their 7 remaining games this season (which means at least 5 more wins, quite a tall order base on their current form nevertheless), they will be able to overtake the now-inactive Sembawang Rangers into 9th place.
Catching 8th-placed Jurong FC (now-inactive as well on 253 points) isn't such an unrealistic goal for next season though, given that they managed about 42 points for each season since 2003 (they should be able to make this mark in 2007 as well, having amassed 34 points so far).
The next team with a shot at 200 all time points this season is Gombak United. They are on 188 points now, thus needing 4 more wins from their last 8 games (not unlikely since they have not lost in the past 5 games). Pulling level with Sembawang is out of the question this season, though it should be a certainty in the next.
Ironically, the 27-Sep draw also meant that Sengkang (currently on 178 points) is mathematically out of the running for 200 points in 2007 (already their 8th season in the league) with 7 games to go. Truly minnows... :-)

Projected S.League 2007 Finish: 25-Sep
Home has won 3-2 against Albirex on 24-Sep, so you may think that this win should improve (or at least maintain) its projected finishing? We shall see...
As the S.League takes another quick break on 25-Sep, the Projected S.League 2007 Finish is now worked out with the 1st method as below:
As at 25-Sep:
# Team-------- P- W- D L GF - GA Pts GD
1 Singapore AF 26 20 2 4 75 - 31 62 (+44)
2 Home-------- 26 19 5 2 57 - 26 62 (+31)
3 Tampines---- 25 19 3 3 60 - 24 60 (+36)
4 Gombak------ 25 9 7 09 40 - 32 34 (+8)
5 Young Lions- 25 9 6 10 33 - 45 33 (-12)
6 Geylang----- 25 7 7 11 31 - 32 28 (-1)
7 Albirex----- 26 7 6 13 36 - 39 27 (-3)
8 Woodlands--- 25 8 9 08 37 - 42 27 (-5)
9 Balestier--- 24 6 7 11 30 - 38 25 (-8)
10 Liaoning--- 25 7 3 15 28 - 46 24 (-18)
11 Sengkang--- 25 4 6 15 26 - 51 18 (-25)
12 Super Reds- 25 2 7 16 16 - 63 13 (-47)
Projected Finish by the end of 2007 season:
# Team-------- P- W- D L- GF - GA Pts GD
1 Tampines---- 33 25 4 04 79 - 32 79 47
2 Singapore AF 33 25 3 05 95 - 39 78 56
3 Home-------- 33 24 6 03 72 - 33 78 39
4 Gombak------ 33 12 9 12 53 - 42 45 11
5 Young Lions- 33 12 8 13 44 - 59 44 -15
6 Woodlands-- 33 11 12 10 49 - 55 39 -6
7 Geylang----- 33 9 09 15 41 - 42 36 -1
8 Albirex----- 33 9 08 16 46 - 50 35 -4
9 Balestier--- 33 8 10 15 41 - 52 34 -11
10 Liaoning--- 33 9 04 20 37 - 61 31 -24
11 Sengkang--- 33 5 08 20 34 - 67 23 -33
12 Super Reds- 33 3 09 21 21 - 83 18 -62
So it's wrong! As compared to the last post, Home is now projected to finish 1 point less & drop to 3rd place... Why?
This is mainly due to its lower % of matches won vs played, as compared to Tampines / SAFFC. Even if Home win its next match, the projected finish will still be 78 points, though it can improve to 81 points if it win the next-next match as well (you may try do the math to verify)...

4 Gombak------ 25 9 7 09 40 - 32 34 (+8)
5 Young Lions- 25 9 6 10 33 - 45 33 (-12)

11 Sengkang--- 25 4 6 15 26 - 51 18 (-25)
12 Super Reds- 25 2 7 16 16 - 63 13 (-47)
Projected Finish by the end of 2007 season:

So it's wrong! As compared to the last post, Home is now projected to finish 1 point less & drop to 3rd place... Why?
This is mainly due to its lower % of matches won vs played, as compared to Tampines / SAFFC. Even if Home win its next match, the projected finish will still be 78 points, though it can improve to 81 points if it win the next-next match as well (you may try do the math to verify)...

Young Lions 1-2 Woodlands: Top-3 Confirmed
Though for quite some time it's apparent that S.League 2007 is essentially a 3-horse-race, the top-3 teams are now (mathematically) confirmed as Young Lions lost 1-2 to Woodlands on 23-Sep (Gombak was mathematically out of the top-3 itself after drawing Home 1-1 on 19-Sep).

SLVC Preview: Balestier vs SAFFC on 29-Sep
Base on the previous post, we know that SAFFC's next SLVC opponent, Balestier, has won the title 3 times & rank 10th in the all-time mini-league.
Balestier has met SAFFC 8 times in SLVC games as tltle challengers, it lost 7 & drew just 1:
In their last 20 meetings since 2001, Balestier's Record is no better, it only drew 3 & lost 17!
If only the 12 games where Balestier played host were considered, then Balestier only drew 2 & lost the other 10!!
There's only one possible outcome from this match: a SAFFC win!!! :-)

The Earliest News Archive on SLeague.Com
SLeague.Com has done a great job keeping the past seasons news, no doubt about that.
The following is the oldest news I can find on the site (dated 19-Dec-2003):
"Home snag SA keeper" http://www.sleague.com/new0101.asp?ID=380
Have tried ID=379, 378, 377, etc... None of these earlier numbers worked.
Do let me know, if you can spot something earlier, :-)

Projected S.League 2007 Finish: 16-Sep
Tampines "Projected Championship" attained on 9-Sep did not last long though, as Home reclaimed the "title" with a 2-0 win over Liaoning on 14-Sep...
As the S.League takes another quick break on 16-Sep, the Projected S.League 2007 Finish is now worked out with the 1st method as below:
As at 16-Sep:

12 Super Reds- 33 03 8 22 21 - 85 17 -64
As compared to the last post, Gombak has now leapt into 4th place, largely "thanks" to the fact that the Young Lions suffered yet another crushing defeat (a 1-7 loss to Tampines on 15-Sep after losing 0-5 to SAFFC on 10-Sep); while Woodlands has dropped to 8th, upon getting docked 6 points, as part of the punishment laid out by S.League on 13-Sep, for abandoning its match vs Tampines on 5-Sep.
