S.League Neutrality Analysis with Games @ JBS

The following are the basic assumptions of my analysis:
1) Games at JBS shall end as 0-0 (since both teams have home advantage at a neutral venue)
2) Games at elsewhere shall end as 1-0 for the home teams (as home advantage equates to a goalfor the host)

'The balance of the force' Table of S.League 2010:

# Team------- P- W--D--L F--A Pts GD
1. YoongLions 33 17-0-16 17-16 51 +1
2. Gombak--- 33 13-10-10 13-10 49 +3
3. Beijing(S) 33 13-9-11 13-11 48 +2
4. Home------ 33 13-9-11 13-11 48 +2
5. Etoile FC 33 12-11-10 12-10 48 +2
6. Balestier- 33 13-8-12 13-12 47 +1
7. SAFFC----- 33 13-8-12 13-12 47 +1
8. Sengkang-- 33 12-8-13 12-13 44 -1

11.Woodlands- 33 12-6-15 12-15 42 -3
12.Geylang--- 33 10-7-16 10-16 38 -6

Highlights:
1. As expected, YL were benefited the most in this analysis, as they play 17 "true" home games (at JBS) this season, the most in the league.
2. Gombak should have had good reasons to dream of a first league title. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out for them so far...
3. Just look at how disadvantaged Geylang are!! Out of their 16 "home" games this season, 6 of them will be at JBS, leaving only 10 "real" home game for them, the least in the league.

Analysis on the previous seasons to follow shortly...

"Relegation" from S.League: 2010 Updates

Quote:

While browsing RSSSF.Com for S.League info, I found that "Relegation" were being mentioned there during 1996, 1999 & 2003 seasons:

1996: "Apparently Police were relegated, Jurong and Home United promoted."
1999: "Marine Castle United's relegation apparently annulled."
2003: "Gombak United were demoted."

Apparently both comments above were wrong, as Police was renamed Home United after 1996, while no relegation has ever been instituted in S.League, including 1999 & 2003.

However, if we go through the past standings carefully, a number of teams that finished last (or near the bottom) did pull out of the league afterwards (mainly due to financial constraints), as if they were relegated:

2002: Gombak (last), Clementi (3rd-last)
2003: Sembawang (4th-last)
2004: Tanjong Pagar (last)
2005: Paya Lebar (last), Sinchi (2nd-last)
2006: Sporting Afrique (3rd-last)

The interesting question now is: Will that happen again to Super Reds (last) or Liaoning (3rd-last) in 2007?

It seemed more likely that Liaoning may face the fate, as it may lose its main sponsor soon... What do you think?
Updated the list for the past 3 seasons:

2007: Liaoning (3rd-last)
2008: Dalian (3rd-last)
2009: DPMM (3rd, just before the ban ), Super Reds (5th )

Any favourites for 2010 candidates? (hopefully none)

Point echoed by the league:
TODAYonline | Voices | Online Only - Foreign teams add value to the S-League

Quote:
Similar to leagues that have a promotion / relegation system, where new clubs each season add spice and excitement to the league, the S-League has a system where teams apply and we admit 12 teams every season that best satisfy our stringent criteria on management capabilities, financial strength and technical abilities. The new teams admitted each season, thus perform the similar role of adding excitement to the league.

Basically, nothing much have changed here, other than:

1) DPMM would have moved above all the other "one-seaon" teams.
2) DPMM would have also shot up to 3rd-place in the table base on PPG,
3) Geylang would became the team that played the most number of league games (391).
4) Balestier would became the only original team (since 1996) with a PPG of less than 1.000.
5) Most teams would have had a lower PPG as compared to the DPMM-less table, except for Home United and... Sengkang!!

2. It's confirmed, Woodlands is now the ONE & ONLY domestic cup semi-finalist w/o a win all-tournament!!

Finally... Wang Xin nabbed!!

Former Liaoning coaches held in China

Quote:
They include club managers Wang Xin and Ding Zhe, who were linked to a 2007 match-fixing scandal that led to the jailing in Singapore last year of six players on the Liaoning Guangyuan side. Wang was the manager while Ding was the head coach of the Liaoning side that played in the S-League in 2007, but both escaped punishment. Xinhua said Wang was wanted by Interpol.

(2009-11-11)

Quote:

Basically it talks about the unhealthy dominance of SAFFC/Duric in the league/scorers-chart (which is more down to the other teams/players unable to compete with them), and the FAS strategic plan as the key to the future of S.League.

Sengkang tied unwanted record of win-less run

Just realized that Sengkang have already went 17 games without a win & tied the league-wide winless-run record:
Wikipedia: S.League: Trivia: "The longest winless run in a season was 17 matches, also by Paya Lebar in 2005."

Should they lose their final game of the season, a new record will be set!!

NB:
- DPMM results excluded
- Out of these 17 winless games, Aide was in-charge of the last 16,

Updates to the Race of (avoiding) the Spoon after Albirex 3-0 Balestier on 3-Nov:

Quote:
With the defeat, Balestier stay rooted to the bottom of the table with all their games already played. Their only hope of moving up is if Sengkang Punggol, who are level on points with them, lose to Woodlands Wellington by at least four goals in their last game on Friday.
Can Sengkang finish the job this Friday, or will they be finished by then?
